Preheat oven to 190°C.

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the sliced smoked sausage until fully cooked. Transfer sausage to a plate and set aside.

In the same skillet, sauté diced onion and minced garlic until they become translucent.

In a large mixing bowl, combine diced potatoes, cooked sausage, sautéed onion and garlic, shredded cheddar cheese, ranch dressing mix, milk, and melted butter. Season with salt and black pepper.

Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes in the preheated oven.

Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving.
